Whether Potter and company where steamrolling through some greasy funky stuff or rocking out, they were killing it and kept the momentum all through the set and got some booties shaking on “If I Was From Paris.”

blues and lasers release on the way - new songs up on myspace
Scott Tournet, lead guitar player for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, also plays in a band called Blues and Lasers (Myspace) with Matt and Bryan. Today’s MySpace update reads . . .
The new album is finally mixed and mastered!!! We’re now in the process of completing the artwork, so it should be available online and at GPN shows starting July. Hope you like.

There are three new songs up for your listening pleasure. Including the gut busting rock and roll stomp of “Whole New Way Of Going Down”, “Who Do” and “Rooster”. Check it out!
(Note: MySpace is being wonky for me today, the normal MySpace link would be http://www.myspace.com/scotttournet/ but it ain’t working. The link above should do it.).

grace potter and the nocturnals a must see at city stages in birmingham
Local Birmingham music bloggers rate GPN highly here, here, here and here. Looks like a sweep!
If you’re a fan of soulful rock blues with folk influences, then you will not want to miss Grace Potter and the Nocturnals on Saturday. In the last few years they’ve been gaining quite the following throughout the U.S. as a result of the band’s thrilling live performances. Read a few reviews of the band’s performances, and you will often see “one of the best live shows I’ve seen!” along with other lavish praise. Grace Potter is only 25, but her voice belies the old soul she must possess. Grace plays a mean Hammond organ in addition to piano and electric and acoustic guitars… and trust us when we say you’ve never heard an organ sound so sexy.
Reg’s Coffehouse
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals - Saturday, Coca-Cola Classic Stage, 4:15 PM - Like 4th of July fireworks, Grace Potter will explode over Linn Park on Saturday afternoon and leave fans ooohing and ahhing. If you want to see a rising young star, don’t miss this act.
Grace Potter brings her blues rock that defies comparisons to the festival.
This will be show stealer no doubt. A mixture of Blues and Soul delivered with an attitude.

A quick look at the website looks very promising, I’m looking forward to this. I always found Harp to be an excellenct read.

lebanon new hampshire with grace potter and the nocturnals
I arrived home at about 2:15 AM from a stellar day in Lebanon, NH. The band was more than gracious with their time with the fans spending more than an hour at a Potterville Posse arranged meetup and Q&A session where Grace, Scott Bryan and Matt answered questions ranging from guitar choices, to favorite venues to play to online vs. local shopping to what defines “success” for a hard working touring band in today’s music industry climate.
The band hit the stage after an announcement from Child and Family Services of New Hampshire that the two shows in Manchester and Lebanon along with the charitable donations had raised $71,000 for local children in need - amazing.
Once again, the band performed a stellar set to a sold out crowd of over 800 people in the sweaty but fun Lebanon Opera House. Highlights included a ringing version of “Over Again” that brought the entire crowd to thier feet in a standing ovation, a sing along closer cover of Led Zepplin’s “Your Time Is Gonna Come” and a surprise appearance by the talking pickle.
After the show and indefatigable Matt and Grace signed autographs and met fans until well after midnight.
Lot’s of media was captured during the day so keep checking back for pictures and video.

birmingham alabama city stages interview
Mary Colurso, music columnist for the Birmingham news, has a nice interview and writeup about Grace Potter and the Nocturnals as a run up to their performance at Birmingham’s City Stages Festival next weekend. The band hits the stage at 4:15 on Saturday the 14th.
Q: Fans say the band has gotten louder, heavier and bluesier over the past few years. Is the sound changing that much?
A: I think every band goes through these transitions, even just from one show to the next. I can only hope we’re going in the right direction. I think I’ve become a gutsier singer. When you come from a jazz or choir background, as I do, everything is always so careful and calculated. But when the band get louder, and the amps get turned up to 11, I have to get louder, too.

“Gold Dust Woman”
I’ll post them as they come in but it will be hard to beat this early writeup from Scott at Hidden Track
Co-Hosts Warren Haynes and Grace Potter opened the show backed by a ridiculously tight supergroup, which included Joe Russo, Booker T. and Will Lee. They fired up intense versions of Find The Coast of Freedom and Gold Dust Woman, as well as a funky Take Me To The River. Many of the impromptu bands that were put together tonight were pretty good, but this band could be absolutely dangerous playing a full show. More please.
and
Grace Potter did an amazing job both co-hosting the show and playing with the supergroup, as well as sitting in with Rose Hill Drive and Leslie West of Mountain (Mississippi Queen was sick!). She gets an A+ on the slinky dress that showed off her never ending legs. She also gave a brief heart-felt speech about growing up in Phish’s Vermont. For those keeping track at home Potter changed outfits three times.
The strange bedfellows ran through a cover of The Flaming Lips’ “Are You A Hypnotist?,” before Mountain guitarist Leslie West took the stage with Rose Hill Drive for the evening’s loudest offerings. The hard-rock guitarist jammed with Rose Hill Drive and Potter on a version of “I’m Going Down” that included “Close Encounters,” before offering his signature song, “Mississippi Queen.” West also joked that Potter was far more attractive than the members of his testosterone-filled band.

the seventh annual jammy awards are tonight
Hosted by our very own Tina and Ike Turner Grace Potter and Warren Haynes. Hopefully we’ll see some audio/video of this event. If the last few posts below are any indication of the Grace/Warren interaction we’ll be in for some serious good times.
