For years(?) the most popular video on YouTube returned by a search for “Grace Potter” has been the 2007 Jammy’s performance of “Cortez the Killer”. It’s easy to see why. The pickup band consists of Grace Potter, Joe Satriani, Steve Kimock, Reed Mathis, Willy Waldman and Stephen Perkins and their performance meshes in a remarkable way. The video has been “viral” for quite some time, I see it referenced and posted to Facebook pages and blogs on a consistent basis.
Recently though, the GPN video for “Paris” has begun to make claims to the throne. Who then will be the ultimate victor?
“Cortez the Killer” – 625,771
“Paris” – 598,201

Cortez is pretty amazing and I know you would agree there KC, based on your nom de plume . . . But as you say it has been around for a number of years and it’s taken some years to build up those numbers. This version of Paris is under a year old with impressive numbers, so . . . my guess is Paris shall edge out Cortez. While it’s Cortez that is still a personal favorite of mine – it would be a good indicator for success for the band should Paris pull ahead and and also take this cameo spotlight on Grace right on up along with it.
Go on and rock that vote at VH1 and that will ensure that Paris does keep growing those numbers fast! http://twe.ly/Cjm
And how long did it take Cortez to get that number of views?
Kired – looks like the video was posted on July 30, 2007
i luv Neil, luv Joe, luv the Jammys and I luv KC but my vote is for *PARIS* ooh lala!
too hot 4 the hot tub!
and the song is just so nasty
I shared the Paris video with our Thanksgiving host (we seem to have similar taste in music) but his only comment was ‘she’s hot.’ Shoulda done it before all the Thanksgiving wine.
I saw the Cortez the Killer jam on television and that turned me into a great GPN fan.
How did Ms. Potter become a part of that jam and what was that jam (concert) for?
I got the sense that the performance was at MSG.
Thank you for any information!!
Nick
Nick, KC mentioned it . . Cortez was done as part of a Jammy Awards show. The Jammy Awards were truly about the music – sorry they ended.
I like both videos relative to mood of the moment. Do think the numbers for “Paris” more accurately represent interest in Grace and the Nocs . . the Cortez video is undoubtedly getting hits from searches for the song itself, Satriani and the others.
But the beauty of that is those people are exposed to Grace’s great performance.
Long term ? Paris will eventually have competition from a newer GPN song/video, but Cortez will always be a magnificent one of a kind .. Cortez could be the tortoise.
damn – need a one shot edit . . should have read the Cortez video is undoubtedly ALSO getting hits from . . .
Toofarnorth – Thank you!
The last jammys (2008) was at the “Theater at MSG” (the new Paramount, which is upstairs from MSG and just a fraction of the size). That was the first time I saw Grace live, albeit i did not see very much of her.
but this one with Cortez the Killer I think was at Roseland near Times Square
