ode to the crows that no longer caw

(ED: We are allowing one post per month)

Dave Eggers has been calling me recently. I wake up (rarely with my hair on fire by the way) and read the latest reference to the sell out. So depressing . . .

Summary:
- “Paris” on that damn Kardashian show was lame because the Kardashian’s are lame
- “Paris” on Leno was cool because the band rocked and also Ellen Page was on the same show and she was in “Juno” and Diablo Cody is cool because she also wrote “United States of Tara” and I’ll be meeting Brie Larson next week but that’s another story.
- On the other hand, “Paris” on Leno was lame because Leno is lame and I’m with Coco
- You’re allowed to get dressed up for Leno because it’s late night TV and you only get one shot
- “Paris” the video is lame because everyone is dressed up and that’s not right is it?
- “Paris” the video is lame because it got released on Hulu first and everyone knows that Hulu used to be free and now they’re going to make me pay to watch a bazillion hours of TV shows f*** them I’ll go back to BitTorrent
- “Paris” the video is cool because it’s all glammy and shit and the song is kind of sexy and tongue in cheek anyway
- “Paris” is actually ok because the acoustic video they did is better why can’t they play it that way?
- “Paris” the video sucks because Grace looks at the camera all the time and sometimes she has a guitar and sometimes she doesn’t and that damn “French” lyric is in there and where the hell are the crows? The song was better with the crows.

“Oh how gloriously comforting, to be able to write someone off.”

But then I watch the video up there of the band performing live at the XPN Festival and damn it but they all seem to be having a grand time playing that song. When I check out the crowd they all seem to be totally digging it and I think back to the 10 or 12 times I’ve seen them play this “shitty song” live and it seems to me that it was always pretty fucking incredible and I wonder why people think that one record or one song or one video is some sort of “defining moment” in a bands life?

My only real complaint about this video is that no matter how many text messages I sent to Scott/Benny for more “information” about the “extras” in the video I got no reply. I mean, I’m a reporter here right? This is just totally unacceptable.

Are these your thoughts or discussions that are going on? I honestly never go on the discussion board, so I’m outa’ the loop. TIS is where it’s at for me, so if I aint discussing here, I aint discussing anywhere. Don’t let Jenny hear ya foresake the crows, dagnabbit;-) My only complaint is that the red suit didn’t make Leno, but honestly that’s not a complaint, but more of a disappointment, but it’s really not a disappointment either b/c Frenchie looked smokin’ hot in what he did wear. All I know is that red suits are epic and I need one.

Tiny, opinionated minds making tiny, opinionated comments – that’s all they are.

“Paris” has never been a favorite of mine, but I thought it rocked on Leno, and he seemed genuinely appreciative of it. The video on Hulu is fine. Nothing wrong with the way the band was dressed, or the way Grace looked at the camera. I love that the it’s in black and white, and especially like the cool split-screen/symmetrical shots.

Not noting numerous negative naysayer’s narratives.

Keep on Trucking Kenny. :-) You know, each time I listen to the cd I find more to criticize and more to love. How’s that for a dichotomy? LOL.

OMG – just has weirdest/surreal experience. Went to Hulu to watch Lie to Me and I was sorta’ half looking as the page cycled through the site’s current promos and thought “Huh, that guy looks like Matt. WAIT A SECOND! I know those people!” LOL! They’re on the main landing page. So freakishly bizarre to see people you know like that. Freakish in a good way, of course,

@ Van – I don’t like it as much. It’s kind of overwhelming. I tried to sign up the other day and it was giving me grief until I just gave up. So, I’m not sure I can actually post anything.

although I post and read on the GPN forum, this has always been my favorite place to do so – it is so user-friendly – agree with Rondo, there – she called the shot!
Still love Paris and this might be my rocker background/history and the French in me…seriously, there’s so much for everyone on the new CD and in a live show…
Thanks for resurfacing, KC

ran across this piece a while ago . . although it speaks to fans of TV shows, imo there are parallels to fans of musicians . .

” The Double-Edged Sword Of Devotion: ‘Chuck’ Vs. The Entitled Fan Base “
http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2010/02/the_doubleedged_sword_of_devot.html

…. drivers drive and riders ride. And if you can’t relax and enjoy the relative powerlessness of your position from time to time, you will deprive yourself of the best possible outcome — which is that somebody is going to take you somewhere you didn’t even know you wanted to go.

By all means, have an opinion. Show not working? Say so. Don’t want to watch it? Good thing it’s not mandatory. But it’s not your show, even if you bought a Subway footlong to save it. It’s the creation of its creators, and they’re never going to give you what you want just because it’s what you want. Which is why they haven’t started inviting you to story meetings.
