grace potter and the nocturnals headed for moca’s hunter center

March 8, 2010

“I’m not an über fate-type person, but the last year has been full of serendipitous events. I’m not sure how things wound up as great as they did,” Potter said, noting rave reviews from critics about the band’s cover of Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” on the “Almost Alice” album, released in unison with Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” movie.

“There’s so much buzz, so much energy around it. It almost feels like it’s our first single off our new album,” she said. “I don’t think we could have done it better than the original; I think we just tried to make it spooky and dark like Tim Burton. I’m so excited that the world is getting to hear it.”

Another very good interview from Grace .. she has a real knack for conveying the same information in fresh ways.
“..serendipitous events..” .. as a big believer in serendipity that made me smile . “first single” seems right given the attention it’s getting – there is something about hearing a band you don’t know do a really good cover of a song you do know that grabs your attention and makes you want to see what else they have (or at least that’s the effect on me).

We saw “Alice in Wonderland ” last Friday and I’ve heard all the “Almost Alice ” tracks. Putting being a GPN fan aside … “White Rabbit” totally captures the tone of the film and, imho, would have been the better song to use over the credits.

Very nice article, and it helped me understand recent GPN history a bit better.

BTW, the Lilith Fair site now lists 34 tour stops (no dates). I wonder how many GPN will do? Lilith is good for exposure, I suppose, but the sets will have to be pretty short.

On the Lilith artists page there are photographs of 28 well known artists given first tier billing, while GPN is among 50 artists I’ve never heard of in a second tier of tiny photos. http://www.lilithfair.com/artists
It’s the only picture with men in it (save one) so props to Grace for being a team player.

I have to remind myself that Grace is only 26, so be patient. I believe Eddie Vedder was 28 when “Ten” was a smash.

So here’s to GPN’s big breakthrough to first tier in 2010!
