In the wake of the recent news that the new “Blues & Lasers” record has gone into the mastering process I wanted to highlight this stellar interview from Dave Schultz that appeared in Jambands sometime back. I can’t believe I missed publishing it then but – there you go.
“You know how you met me,” Yurco tells Tournet, who reacts with a bemused expression on being chided by Yurco. “I met you at Albertson when I came down to see you guys play, because you were hot as shit. I asked you about your Fender Telecaster. That’s where I met Bryan, I think you blew out my amplifier,” he says, pausing for a second. “It was at the Bernie Sanders benefit,” continues Yurco. “And I blew out your amp before I even met you,” finishes Tournet, now recalling the incident. “I get a call, Dude, Scott Tournet just blew your amp up,’” an animated Yurco recalls, bringing a big smile to Tournet’s face. “I’m sure you said, Ah, I’ve got to be in a band with that guy,’” jokes Tournet. “That was basically our first introduction to each other,” continues Yurco. “Scott blowing out my amplifier and then not remembering it.” Yurco then bursts out laughing. “That’s all right, I had more work done than I needed on it anyway,” he says of the repairs Tournet paid for.
Like all good stories, Tournet remembers everything completely different.

‘As if he stepped out of a cartoon, Yurco is a lightning rod for calamity and the friendly and benignly mischievous guitarist always seems to be at the center of some swirl of activity. Whenever he’s out of sight, you worry what type of trouble he may get himself into.”
From what little I’ve seen, this seems wholly accurate.
I have a few newbie questions:
Yurco is now in the Nocturnals too right?
What is the deal with playing ski resorts? Does the band like to ski? Are these going to be full length shows?
Have they announced plans for a headlining tour this summer? I am hoping the new album is a smash and GPN can support a full show at Red Rocks one day, but right now GPN gets no radio love in Colorado.
Comment: It looks like the official website for the band is a bit neglected compared to this blog.
Thanks,
Charles
KC – appreciation again expressed to you for your die hard support of GPN!
Charles, you have hit one or a few of the proverbial nails right on the head……..marketing of these future mega-stars has much to be desired at the present….maybe it will improve. …At least I’m hoping so.
The whole idea is getting asses in the seats but if the asses dont know of the band, they aint gonna find the seat……know what I mean??
I think that was one reason the Posse was formed was to “get the word out”……..and that happened nicely at the time, but its now time to take the promoting to the next level and beyond………..these guys and girls deserve that!!
Charles . . . .
Benny has been “in” the Nocturnals since about March of ‘09?
Ski resorts are full length shows, yes. I’m guessing they pay well or Benny has Burton as a sponsor.
Summer tour – nothing announced yet.
Thanks for the answers. I am trying to do my part. After seeing GPN twice, I have put my friends on notice I will be dragging them to the show the next time GPN comes though Denver. But I could not justify bringing them when GPN was merely the support act for that Bret fella, playing less than an hour.
That Snowmass show will be hard to get to, forget about bringing friends.
