The Mercury Lounge reports that Cat’s NYC chick-a-billy trip “Puss “n Boots” will be opening for Doveman tomorrow night. Purportedly this group consists of “Sasha Dobson (vocals/guitar) Catherine Popper (bass/vocals) and Avril Lavigne (eyeliner/snarl).”
We’ll wait on Popper to provide us an update on what must have been a major musical coup to replace former band member Norah Jones with the rough and ready Lavigne. We’re hoping for a “get fucked” response. If indeed this notice was some sort of editorial typo we’re still hoping that Popper can be listed as (bass/vocals/eyeliner/snarl). Hate to lose that. Yes, yes, we know that the Myspace page linked in the article claims that Lavigne is in the band. It also says that the band is “inveterate professionals with disciplined performances and impeccable stage etiquette.” – only the snark challenged would miss that one.

* The band was forced to change it’s name from “Dixie Fried” in order to avoid a lawsuit from the folks at KFC.
** Sadly, Antonio Banderas’ camp is now pursuing a similar lawsuit

Actually, the first time I saw Avril Lavigne associated with Puss N’ Boots “on eyeliner and snarl” Norah Jones was still listed as the groups leader.
Which raises something I have been wondering about. Last November, on an off night for the band, a couple of days before the Terminal 5 show, Norah Jones appeared on Letterman. A woman who looked alot like Cat was playing bass. Anyone have any info?
One more Cat note. While trying to track down some historical info about her, I found a reference to her having played in a klezmer band, “The Isle of Klezbos”, in the 90′s. What blew my mind is that this band was (and still is) led by the sister of an old high school classmate. Small world.
I’ve seen that Norah performance and I don’t think that’s Cat – unless she stopped playing the bass. As to the “Isle of Klezbos” – oh yeah.
