blogger reviews from the current tour

The night concluded with a long jam on the seriously soulful Nothing But Water. Clearly they blew the audience away because as I walked up 56th Street on my way to Penn Station, I was singing the lyrics, and so was everyone else. The song was haunting on its own, but imagine hearing person after person sauntering through Hells Kitchen quietly singing:

Take me down to the river
Take me down to the lake
Yes, we’ll all go together
We’re gonna do it for the good Lord’s sake

The word was that if you hadn’t heard Grace live, you really heard her, and this is true. The albums do not do her justice. There is an electricity to her, and it runs right through her body from her fluttering fingertips, to her hair-waving head, right down to her high-heeled shoed feet. Whether she’s fronting the band playing slide on her flying V or from her perch at her Hammond organ, Grace Potter is in full throttle. I always like to ask myself, “what does this band want to be”? For Grace and the Nocturnals, I think they’d like to be the female Allman Brothers. And they’ve got a pretty great start.

That’s to funny! The same thing was happening last night in the parking garage in Philly. All you could hear was folks singing “NBTW”. Have seen this song played a ton of times but the long jam of this tune on Friday and Saturday night was incredible. I’m hoping someone caught this on tape.

Almost forgot. Great pic Dino! I had asked Dino to take a shot of Dennen’s toe curling. (Wonder if he got it.)

Hmmm…just the other day didn’t I see some comment that “Oasis” could end up being GPN’s “Blue Sky” ? :-)

“Oasis” is a stunning song.

Thank you for the quote and the link.
