“Things I Never Needed” – classic GPN songwriting and tune structure. Fits in easily.

“Oasis” – New interesting sound, loving the swirly guitar here.

I did enjoy – so good to hear some new sounds – I do love the contemplative vein in Things I never Needed -it’s the kind of sound that made me love Can’t See Through. That swirly guitar on Oasis is very nice too. thanks to the taper and to you KC for putting these out here.
new stuff!! very exciting.
Things I Never Needed makes me sad.
I too love the swirly guitars on Oasis
Agree with snowbird . . Things I Never Needed does remind me of Can’t See Through which I loved from the instant I heard it – happened to be at my first show. I like TINN — lyrics more than music (may be the country flavor I’m getting . . I realize that’s purely subjective ).
Oasis . . keep going back to it on Archive – hooked on the beat – think this one is on it’s way to Love It.
Thanks for linking the Archive set and posting the new songs KC.
Thanks for the post, I found these earlier on archive and listened for about 3 hours straight while at work. Lovin’ the new stuff!
Listened to the new tunes…but have to remark…that Medicine tune really gets stuck in your head. I’ve been looping it for about 6 hours now. It’s catchy.
This is first set with new band that I’ve listened to in its entirety. Thanks so much GPN for being, jgraham for taping, and kc for bringing. Agree with Steph on Medicine – they have completely nailed it – love it! Overall I was reminded of a conversation several years ago where someone asked me in reference to my experience with the subject at hand, “Does it make you sad?” I replied, “No, but it does feel like the end of something.” Listening to this set felt like both the end and the beginning of something – bittersweet. Have to admit that “Things I Never Needed” did make me very sad, however. Such is the power of music.
how strange to think that you had posted to a topic, and to see it’s not there –
maybe Animal took my post to the aliens.
like the new songs – especially Oasis, with the “swirly guitars”.
I find it reassuring to hear new types of songs from GPN, that retain some of the familiar sound of the band.
thanks again to taper jgraham – and to the band for making it ok with GPN for him to set up and record, and post on Archive.
live people love live music.
take a long hard look at my face
take the things and more I can’t replace
take my heart go on take it away
I got nothin to say
take away this sense of regret
take the things I need to forget
take the mistakes I haven’t made yet
and all I have left
I don’t want to be one who let you down
all I do is run myself around
wish I coulda seen through your eyes
maybe then I woulda realized
I’m the only who’s (singin ????), for the things I never needed
take a long hard look at yourself
take away ?? everyone else
take the hardest blows that were said
??? on your shoulder
can anyone help on the ???’s? words as close as I can make the out to “things I never needed”. it’s a beautiful song, it still makes me sad..I even think the band looks sad playing it. sometimes sad is very beautiful.
Thanks broseph!
I came back to say after downloading ” Things I Never Needed” and bringing up Grace’s vocals . . the lyrics win . . I’m falling for the song.
And re: the lyrics . . . owllover has been busy !
Thank you for your work . . maybe a group of ears can get all the words figured out . . . I put what I think I hear in italics . .
take a long hard look at my face
take the things and more I can’t replace
take my heart go on take it away
I got nothin to say
take away this sense of regret
take the things I need to forget
take the mistakes I haven’t made yet
and all I have left
I don’t want to be one who let you down
all I did was run myself around
I wish I coulda seen through your eyes
maybe then I woulda realized
I’m the only who’s bleedin’ (?), for the things I never needed
take a good long look at yourself
take away (?? ) everyone else
take the hardest blow that was dealt
and sat on(?) on your shoulders
take away this sense of regret
take the things I need to forget
take the mistakes I haven’t made yet
They’re all I have left
I agreed with “did was” and “bleedin’ in the first verse
after dealt – “sun on your shoulders”
Take a good, long look at yourself
Take the weight off everyone else
Take the hardest blow that was dealt
That sat on your shoulders
I believe we’ve got it! thanks guys!
I think second line of first verse is: “Take the things I know I can’t replace.”
owllover . . thanks again . . how about tackling Oasis ?
Karen . . agree on “I know” . and “the weight” totally works – good ears !
KC . . ” They’re ” – yes ! – now that you’ve said it anyway :]
So . . latest version with changes bolded . . .
Take a long hard look at my face
Take the things I know I can’t replace
Take my heart, go on take it away
I got nothin’ to say
Take away this sense of regret
Take the things I need to forget
Take the mistakes I haven’t made yet
They’re all I have left
I don’t want to be one who let you down
All I did was run myself around
I wish I coulda seen through your eyes
Maybe then I woulda realized
I’m the only one who’s bleedin’ for the things I never needed
Take a good long look at yourself
Take the weight off everyone else
Take the hardest blow that was dealt
*??** … your shoulders
both of the suggestions work for my ears – - thoughts anyone ?
* That sat on
** Sun on
Everyone’s gone – I cranked it up without bass and now think it’s “IT sat on your shoulders,” whch goes well with the second line. It truly pains me to disagree with kc (and I thought it was sunshine for awhile, too), but sunshine just doesn’t fit the context.
Also am now hearing “Take ‘A’ weight off everyone else.” Gotta run. Enjoyed ‘parsing’ this song with you all. (Please don’t be annoyed with me kc.)
Don’t you people have jobs?
one two three four..
take a long hard look at my face
take the things i know i cant replace
take my heart go on take it away.
i got nothing to say.
take away this sense of regret
take the things i need to forget
take the mistakes i haven’t made yet
from all i have left –
i dont wanna be the one who lets you down
all i do is run myself around
I wish i coulda seen through your eyes
maybe then id realize. im the only one whose bleeeding for the things i never needed.. the things i never needed.
***take a good long look at yourself
take away all for everyone else
take a heartless look at yourself
theres a smile on your shoulder****
i dont wanna be the one who lets you down
all i do is run myself around
i wish i coulda seen through your eyes maybe then id realize
im the only one whose bleedin for the things i never needed.
the things i never needed…..
i dont wanna be the one who lets you down
all i did is run myself around
i wish i could see through your eyes
maybe then i would realize that im the only one whose bleedin for the things i never needed. the things i never needed.
ok so thats what i keep hearing.. but then again each time i listen im less and less sure of **** that area..
Having trouble hearing the audio on Oasis. Something about bringing the songs out one at a time-Learning the songs- dangleing. Can anyone pick it all up?
“Would you guys like to hear another new song? We’re just going to trickle them out, you know. We’re going to dangle them, one at a time. We’re going slow, ‘cause you should never try to learn a whole bunch of songs and then play them. We learned that the hard way. [From a band member (Scott?): ‘Yes, we did.’] So this is one that we learned. This one we learned really well, actually. I hope. You all got a lot of energy for a third act. Can’t even imagine what kind of ________________ . It’s impressive.” [Then the stuff about the southern "yip."]
Thanks Karen.
Hearing this song excites me to no end. I love the words, the vibe it gives me, the way it takes me away, the way it showcases Scotty. I love and miss GPN and to hear this song, makes me miss them even more. I love the new stuff guys. I am so proud.
