the entire night was just great – from the Pink Floyd openers (Wish you were here!) to Jackie Green sitting in, and the guitar player from Steve Winwoods band, just an amazing show! Just when it seems it can’t get any better then it does >Grace comes out and turns the energy up even more!
Grace was striking in one of her black shiny skirts, and hair done up high on her head- everyone seemed to be having a blast on stage – the trading of verses from Warren to Grace and Jackie during the Southern Man – WOW!
Yay, joester ! . . really happy for you.
Must have been a show for the books . . someone on twitter posted it went until 1:40 am . . hoping media will show up on YT
I checked my e-mails yesterday when we got home and saw the list of mail we had discussing Warren on the radio in L.A. last week.
Saw my reply that I hoped Grace would fly up to SF and join Mule at the Warfield – never really thinking it was going to happen, just wishin and hopin at that point. The Mule show was already one of the best I had ever seen – c’mon, a 3-song Pink Floyd opener? Wish you were Here with a strong crowd sing-a-long? crazy. and Jackie Green singing neil young and dead songs? The show was already off the hook.
I can’t tell you how special it felt to see her walk onto the stage – like someone had seen my e-mail and answered my wishes! the Wild Horses was SO great – I was speechless, just happy as heck that we were there! and then the Take me to the River – even better than I remember it from last year – just blown away! Teri told me after that – “Grace will be up for the encore” – which once it came – was a beautiful version of Morning Dew w/Jackie Green – and no Grace. I was happy as heck already, and then the crowd would just not leave after the Dew, yelling, screaming, clapping – so out comes Mule, with Warren, Grace and Jackie all arm in arm – and gather in the center stage, and nailed one of the strongest versions of Southern Man I have ever heard – and yes – it ended about 1:40am. we walked to our little dive bar across Market st – they told us we couldn’t order drinks, but we could have a shot.
so one round of Don Julio shots, and we were off to to the hotel – what a night to remember!

thanks for the link – one minor correction to make on their review- the first set closings with jackie greene are reversed -
friday: don’t let me down>sugaree
saturday: don’t let it bring you down>loser.
still all aglow from the weekend.
I need to add that on friday nite – the Radiators played extremely tight and enthused at Great American Music Hall. they were recording, so officially, there was no recording. I hope they release the show – it was definitely worth buying if they do. Total Evaporation alone would be worth it, not to mention the rest of the show. just great!
one more thing – thanks for the twitter updates- really enjoy them more than I thought I would.
