i got the medicine that everybody wants

via the AT&T webcast – missing the first song “Some Kind of Ride” but otherwise . . . video player auto forwards so sit back and relax then get back up.

A few thoughts.
- Everyone totally put it out there didn’t they? You can sense a mood rising.
- The B-3 is back on the new stuff for sure.
-Grace’s description of the “Phone Song” on the other interview doesn’t really match the sound here which is more “radio friendly”. I’m sure as the band works this out on the road it will twist and turn into something else again.
- What, exactly is a “Policy Woman” I ask? My google-fu has failed me on this one. This might need to be a direct question. “Mojo Hand” is an easy one.

Now, all we need is to find the Triumph video.

Not sure about the second new song…it’s a little too polished or something. I *love* the new IIWFP, though.

Was glad to see the drumming stayed . . think I like it even better in Sweet Hands too – good fit. Wish could make out the words in the chant in Paris enough to use babblefish . . hopefully someone who speaks fluent french will be able to pick it up and tell us. Maybe I was sulking & projecting because Wilco wasn’t part of the webcast lineup . . but NBTW seemed to have a bit of a Wilco-esque wall of sound in it – ’twas nice !!
I liked all three of the new songs when watched the webcast but Policy Woman (Medicine) was the one that got stuck in my head. New music – new band . . will be interesting to see how all of the songs evolve as they get played more during the tour.

“Policy” is another name for the numbers. From Wikipedia (the opening paragraph of a longer article):

“The numbers game, or policy racket, is an illegal lottery played mostly in poor neighborhoods in U.S. cities, wherein the bettor attempts to pick three or four digits to match those that will be randomly drawn the following day. The gambler places his or her bet with a bookie at a tavern, or other semi-private place that acts as a betting parlor. A runner carries the money and betting slips between the betting parlors and the headquarters, called a “numbers bank” or ‘policy bank.’ The name ‘policy’ is from a similarity to cheap insurance, both seen as a gamble on the future.”
