adrien gets some press

April 2, 2009

FOTB (Friend of the band) and noted photographer Adrien Broom gets a nice writeup in The Waterford Times.

A seasoned live music photographer, Broom had the opportunity to photograph Sting in concert and is band photographer for the rising rock band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, whom she joined on their This is Somewhere tour.

Broom met the band’s drummer when they were young kids vacationing on Fishers Island. The band—from Vermont—formed about six years ago and has grown from coffeehouse gigs to touring with the Dave Matthews Band and The Black Crowes.

“They have a huge fan base,” Broom says. “It’s been an amazing journey. I usually hop on the bus when they go on tour, but now it’s insane—they’re touring five to six months at a time and so I hop on the bus for a couple of weeks at a time.”

There is so much to like about this picture. The geometry and beauty of the cement blocks, the pose, the way Grace’s jacket echoes the greenery in the lower left corner, the darkness through the empty window contrasted with the vista behind Grace (some symbolism there, perhaps?); and the boots should make a lot of people happy. ;-) I’ll be buying that book.

Would love a book or two, also! Lovely pix – like the artistry.

p.s. while Grace is in the square it appears as if she had been applying pressure – the broken header above her! A statement about conformity?
