bryan d’s favorite musical moments of 2008 via state of mind music

January 9, 2009

Excellent and entertaining writeup from State of Mind Music in which a variety of musicians and industry types talk about their favorite musical moments of 2008.

Bryan Dondero (Go to page 3 for the full piece)

Watching Neil Young from backstage at Farm Aid was definitely one of the most exhilarating musical moments for me this year… well… ever actually. He played a killer set‚ going between raucous Crazy Horse tunes‚ and beautifully placid acoustic songs — and ended with an apocalyptic rendition of “Day in the Life” (McCartney ditty and all). There is just something that gives me hope‚ watching a man in his 60s violently rip the strings off his guitar.

That was a particularly gnarly rendition of Day in the Life. Bryan was quite the lucky man to see that from such a great vantage point.

Very nice. I checked out Devotchka on YouTube – all Bryan had to say was “maudlinly drenched vocals.” Don’t have time to explore in depth, but I like “The Clockwise Witness.”

I think Bryan is a really good writer . . not that he has time – but it would be fun to have him do an occasional guest blog here on TIS – once a month maybe ?
His Ghostland Observatory comments made me smile . . heard them for the first time on a webcast and liked them enough make a selective playlist on Rhapsody. . definitely not my usual taste but good is good.
