Sweet photo and wonderful video of a classy ikon of folk/blues and a powerful voice for civil rights as well.

Not surprising but nice to know that Grace is a fan – love the photo.
TY for the NYTimes video . . excellent yes . . emotional yes . .

From an article on Odetta’s passing posted on a board I frequent – like her use of ‘musical historian’:
“I’m not a real folksinger,” she told The Washington Post in 1983. “I don’t mind people calling me that, but I’m a musical historian. I’m a city kid who has admired an area and who got into it. I’ve been fortunate. With folk music, I can do my teaching and preaching, my propagandizing.”

If that doesn’t break your hear, you don’t have one.

Van took it, you can NOMINATE it…it was actually F…I…L…M…which explains why no one has seen him with a camera..
No, Van was not the guy in the red hat, maybe Mojo can crop him out..Wait, why am I talking in the third person.?..I’m not a pro athlete!!

That was a great day, the NOC’s ROCKED that tent…shook the Folk Festival …and this pics is truly one of my most favorite..

” Wait, why am I talking in the third person.?..I’m not a pro athlete!! ”
omg . . . choking on my wine here . . .

Came back in to leave what someone posted in another site’s Odetta thread . . . thought it was very touching
” I took my mom to NYC last week- she really wanted to see Garrison Keillor, the Prarie Home Companion. Odettta was scheduled to sing that night. Instead they did a wonderful tribute to her, singing some songs she used to sing, and even making one up as a tribute to her. ”
