the incredible exploding b3 and guitar amp

October 25, 2008

For those of you watching the live stream from New Orleans last night you may have noticed some, ahem, “technical difficulties” early on in the show. Word on the street it that a power surge literally exploded Scott’s amplifier and set fire to the Hammond B3. The good news, no one was hurt. In addition the B3 was actually rented – not sure about the amplifier.

In true Nocturnal fashion almost a dozen volunteers hoisted the Nocs own B3 from their truck and onto the stage for the sets conclusion with “Nothing But The Water”.

Rock and Roll indeed – way to deal with adversity and keep on rocking. Kudos to the band and technicians for powering through.

I’d hate to see what they do to their rental cars!

I suspect that was probably, Scott’s amp, hopefully just some tubes. I’ve noticed that he seems to have another one right behind it, on and ready to go.

Glad it was a rental !
Okay tech-types – - why aren’t surge protectors used for equipment like they are for computers ?
Impressed with how Grace and the guys handled the situation.

Went to iClips a couple times today but nothing worth sticking around for. Last time I checked in – about 9:30 NOLA time – they were webcasting a stripper show – I am not kidding !
Gave up – will check what shows up tomorrow – someone said Cowboy Mouth is worth seeing.

The name of the band is Cowboy Mouth … But they’ll explain it. Loved the drama last night … As an opportunity for them to soldier on … Boy did they! Knew I liked these guys ….

Smokin’ !!

Smokin indeed. Now when we say Grace plays a Smokin B3 it will be more than figurative.

Also, a significant surge can find it’s way through surge protectors. Also, the amperage requirements for some gear may be higher than surge protectors can handle, so the may not be used.

It was a fun show filled with all kinds of unexpected madness. I must say Grace was looking extra fine as well. The best legs in rock n roll.

Somehow I am not surprised about this one. I knew that one day sooner or later these guys would cause something to explode! The power surge must have come from all the energy pumping thru that place! Just like magic…
