Additionally, Schwahn revealed that Grace Potter of the Vermont-based band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals is going to do an episode of One Tree Hill. The 25-year-old vocalist recently gained national attention with her band’s newest album “This Is Somewhere,†which blends funky blues, soul and rock from the ‘60s and early ‘70s.
Remember that the Apologies was featured prominently on the 100th episode of the show.

I have a tattered souvenir from a Big Star store in Memphis, picked up on a pilgrimage to the South that I made when I was barely 21, when I set forth to find some mineral traces of the blues and early rock heritage I’d only read about in books. What I found on that journey was Alex Chilton. I’d already come to love Big Star’s catalog, introduced to me via the mix tapes my friends and I made for each other as we built our own twisted history of Americana from what the band X once called “the unheard music.” Alex Chilton was a wandering, heretical patriarch of our new religion. Bands like the Replacements and R.E.M. found him inspirational. (Members of one such group, the Posies, would later play with a reformed Big Star.) College radio DJs turned Big Star’s catchy but unkempt songs into the hits they should have been the first time around. First chick band that I thought was great. Listen to those harmonies and that lead guitar sound. Before they “sold out” (which they themselves admit) they had a great thing going. In 1985 I hung out pre and post show with them in a bar in Virginia Beach – still a night to remember. Susanna is still doing it with Matthew Sweet – Rain, Different Drum, Cinnamon Girl, You’re So Vain, Maggie May – check out “Under The Covers”.

Thanks for the Kate Walsh link…that was pretty damn funny. I knew I liked her before, now I have a new found appreciation. I also like Greys Antatomy- it is just about the only show on TV these days that I watch. Also, thank you Kortez for pointing out the part of Steph’s post that sparked the debate for me at least. I felt as if she was willing to give up on the band, and that was so not cool to read. However, in retrospect I see now that her intentions were not to be so harsh. I hope that you see now that we dont take any anti-GPN discussion so well here at this is somewhere. Lets all just keep on blowin’ sunshine. I like warm and fuzzy feelings…so lets stick with that.
PS- Kortez, I loved the part of the article that you had posted, and have intentions to go back and read the full article, at a time when my kids are in bed and I am not falling asleep on my keyboard. That time has yet to arise, but I thank you for posting the link, and pulling out the gist of it for us short attention spanners.

54 comments, that’s gotta be a record for this site. In response to Danado, if nominated I won’t run, if elected, I won’t serve. I’d piss off so many people I’d be dead in a month.
It occurred to me in the shower (yes that happens a lot), that there may be something to our overly effusive and near blind devotion to this band. I realize that the word “fan” is derived from “fanatic,” but we seem to move even beyond fandom. We have been afforded a unique situation through the web, the posse, and the general attitude of the band, to have unprecedented access to these musicians. It may have left us with a severely muted critical voice.
Many of us have met, drank, eaten, and had human like conversations with these people. Hell some of you have been to their homes, hung out with the fam, etc. They are not some performers on a stage, they are acquaintances, friends and all too human. We don’t want to criticize them anymore than we do our best bud. We need to accept this situation and not get defensive (like my snarky self did) when someone points out our tinted glasses. I say we embrace ourselves and when confronted with our sunshine blowing issues say, “Yep I sure do, cause I like what they do and who they are so much, it’s hard for me to do anything else.”
Let us remember, also, that spirited debate and questioning decisions is not a bad thing. It is not a far stretch to believe that our opinions make their way back to the ears of a certain band. However, it is way beyond our purview to believe that we hold any real sway (Ted aside, or course
).
As far as keeping it real, I will assure you that KC will bring down the hammer if his fake o’ meter goes off. Of course, I think this band is so far from fake, they must have a serial number imprinted on their butts and a certificate of authenticity. (damn my sunshiney ways).

Did I mention that I would watch Grace talk about wallpaper…yeah, I guess I did..hmmm..wish I had something deep to add but I dont…well you all carry on and I’ll pop back in if I think of something mind blowing. But don’t go canceling plans tonight or anything, it’s a long shot at best. I did want to add that if this is something that gets a little notice for the band on a whole, or even makes Grace happy and takes care of that need that she had brought up that she would love to act in something some time,then who the hell gets hurt in this? It might not be Shakspeare caliber stuff, but then what is? If this tunes a few folks into the music end of her carrier and sells a few cd’s that in turn help pay for the next cd so we all get some new music to listen too, then I for one am all for it. Isin’t that the whole point in the end and why some of us are in the posse? If I got asked to do three minutes on Cops where I’m filmed being chased down the street naked in the rain by a swat team for stealing non dairy creamer from a 7-11, and in the end I got to say to the camera”Go out and buy Grace and the Noc’s new cd, they would really love you for it”…I’d do it! So am I sell out? Nope , just deeply troubled and should be watched at all times!!! I think I’m done now, my head hurts.
I used to have a muted critical voice where these guys were concerned too. No, the OTH news isn’t horrifying enough to justify my strong reaction to it. (Not as horrifying as an ACL tear during the 1st game of the season, anyway.) As I clarified above, I over-reacted. However, I still hold the same opinion about the show. And, no, this alone is not what lead me to question the overall direction of the group. I’ll leave it at that. I think this is a dead horse… Good talk all…

There seems to be an interesting parallel between fame and politics…One starts out with the purest intentions but then slowly is pulled down into decisions that they would not have originally made for fear of survival…
