Simple, fun exercise. Create your own setlist – pretend that you’re backstage before a GPN headlining show and suddenly all the formerly strong-willed band members decide to cede creation of the setlist to you. I know, I know, far fetched – but still. The show is taking place next week and you need to pick ten songs and two encores. Sequencing is important – what’s your opener? What’s the set closer? Have you thought about tempo? Encores? Are there cover songs and how many?
You need to pick from songs the band has actually played – this isn’t a “make up crazy stuff” contest. I’d also love to hear why you picked the songs you did and any thoughts about order. I’ll go first.
Setlist
1 – If I Was From Paris – start off with a rocker that boogies
2 – Treat Me Right – add the funky keyboard
3 – Stop The Bus – now highlight the lead guitar
4 – Apologies – hell that girl can sing!
5 – Ah, Mary – plus the song writing is great
6 – Pain In My Heart- Otis, my man
7 – Sweet Hands – rock it back up
8 – Nothing But The Water – classic all band jammer
9 – Delta – underplayed but not under appreciated
10 – Over Again – gotta go out with the big bang
Encore
E1) Sugar – slow build back up so you can realize there is more
E2) Cortez The Killer – here is where we came from, but also what we can do
Bonus: Mystery Train, played acoustic in the lobby after the show. (Cheating)

Oooh…good call on the Belladonna. Miss her too.
Oh, I want to play too!
Ok, this was more of a challenge than I had orginally thought. Here is what I came up with. I am so glad that we did this exercise, now I will be prepared when they ask.
1. If I Was From Paris (guava version, please)- I am always a fan of
shows opening with good groovin’ songs
2. Joey- just plain fun for all
3. Can’t See Through ->Ragged Company- for all of those who missed
it @ Skowhagen
4. Treat Me Right- this was the song that ‘nocturnalized’ me, likewise
for any newcomers attending I am sure.
5. Toothbrush and My Table- once again, just plain fun.
6. NBTW- no explaination needed-
7. Fallen or Flying- I have never heard it live, is that valid enough?
8. Mister Columbus- just in time to pump things up again
9. Sweet Hands- because we are all so pumped up
10. Big White Gate- brings it down just enough to make us realize that we need more!!!
Encore 1: Meantime
Encore 2: Night Rolls On
I tried to do this yesterday and got overwhelmed. All I”m gonna say is I can’t wait to meet guava girl!! Looks like we love the same songs. I’d replace Mr. Columbus with a cover…I’ll go with NUTBUSH CITY LIMIT
There you go picking on poor old Mr. Columbus again Amy. Stop it. If the man never found America we would never have met GPN.
I’m not entirely satisfied with my list – don’t know the songs as well as the rest of you (might be too many covers, too).
1. Mastermind (good song to woo the uninitiated)
2. Nutbush City Limits
3. Jet Airliner
4. Here’s to the Meantime
5. Apologies
6. Stop the Bus
7. Sugar
8. Treat Me Right
9. Pain in My Heart
10. Ah Mary
Encores
1. Are We Falling or Flying?
2. Nothing But the Water (answer: we’re flying) *
* At fireworks I saw last Saturday, after a spectacular finale they did something they had never done before. As people were starting to leave, up shot a shimmering display of silver and gold with a beautiful feathery pink burst at the end that lingered in the air. It was breathtaking, and that’s how I envision NBTW being as a final encore — an exciting finale with a gentle caress at the end.
my contribution:
1. Sugar – to get the party started
2. Sweet Hands – and while we are up..just to keep rocking
3. Joey – a nice funky version to get us clapping
4. Treat Me Right – to keep the groove going
5. Ah Mary – for the political statement
6. Left Behind – just because i like it
7. Apologies – so we can mellow out a bit before the big finish
8. Stop the Bus – for the energy the band has during this song
9. Gettin in Tune – we need a cover and i love it live
10. NBTW – probably the best finale song ever: never tire of the drum solo
encore
1. Piss On Your Hand – because we haven’t made it to the bathroom all night
2. Big White Gate – grace’s tribute to her grandma – perfect ending
thanks for the opportunity to list my perfect show
1. Ah, Mary (gets things started and ends with her on the B3)
2. Sweet Hands (since she’s already sitting down)

5. Falling or Flying (time for a breather)
6. Pain in my Heart (the second show-stopper … better than the original)
7. Treat Me Right (working us back up)
8. Sinking Man (OK, we’re worked up … kick our ass)
9. If I Was From Paris (Just plain fun)
