birmingham alabama city stages interview

by k. cortez on June 6, 2008

Mary Colurso, music columnist for the Birmingham news, has a nice interview and writeup about Grace Potter and the Nocturnals as a run up to their performance at Birmingham’s City Stages Festival next weekend. The band hits the stage at 4:15 on Saturday the 14th.

Q: Fans say the band has gotten louder, heavier and bluesier over the past few years. Is the sound changing that much?
A: I think every band goes through these transitions, even just from one show to the next. I can only hope we’re going in the right direction. I think I’ve become a gutsier singer. When you come from a jazz or choir background, as I do, everything is always so careful and calculated. But when the band get louder, and the amps get turned up to 11, I have to get louder, too.

Nice Interview - especially like the last question and how Grace explains what playing the B-3 is like to her- some kinda ride - indeed!
