Didn’t catch the Ray LaMontagne joke…

But I did see Spacehog, Oasis and The Black Crowes at the Beacon once. (The Battling Brothers tour.) And Spacehog were great, even though the Crowes stole the show. Oasis were good too.

Hope to catch the Nocturnals with the Crowes.

Ray LaMontagne regularly makes my daily playlists and knew his background so pleased that caught it immediately (pats self on back) - details often get lost in the jumble that passes as my mind.

Still relatively new to GPN so am now wondering if the reference indicates they like RLM’s music ? or just keep up on other New England artists ?

I love artist interviews — thanks for posting this. And I think the RLM reference was TTF (enjoyed the puzzle, too).

Correct, “Tree Top Flyer” reference.

So giving out the answer is alright ? Good to know - it’s not done until the next day at another place I visit.
Congrats, Karen.

Was I out of order, k.c.? Could use a little guidance here, cause I want to play fair.

Absolutely not Karen, first one in wins. I think toofar was being coy.

Ok, but I concede to toofar this time because she was first.

Me coy ? LOL - did they change the definition? Let’s see - quiet, shy, demure - you so know better - oh wait - playful - ok , I like that one :)

But I wasn’t being “coy” - I really didn’t think I should say.
Was rather fascinated with RLM a while back because of the Maine factor. I had lived/worked in the Lewiston area at one time plus found info on the Portland area VIP party that led to his first recording contract indicating then Gov. King had a hand in that connection. Had campaigned heavily for King and met him several times so that just made RLM’s bio all the more interesting to me. So yes, I really did know the answer.

Karen - you won fair and square - the congrats were sincere.

(disclaimer - blaming wine and lack of sleep for this post :] )

toofar – I play Scrabble with the dictionary freely passed around, winning’s not really important to me. But I accept your graciousness and thank you.

I have no computer at home (by choice), so I have to input my late night thoughts the next day – not always easy when things are popping here at work. Last night I was thinking about this interview with GPTN and what a privilege it is to see and hear them talk in an intimate setting about what their influences were, and about their hopes for the future. They seem like real folk.

* I play Scrabble with the dictionary freely passed around *

I think I like you :]

Being serious now - - I am also impressed by how open they are and think maybe that is why - as good as some of the videos are - it really is important to see them live. I’ve been to a number of other concerts with some very enthusiastic fans and a lot ot excitement in the air - - but my first GPN show was just on a different level somehow. Maybe the magic is as simple as sensing the “what you see is what you get” honesty of the performance and the music ? ? (She says like she has a clue after only one concert so far - sheesh - backing out quietly now )

Over the past year, I’ve come to appreciate the concept of live performance through watching Austin City Limits, DVDs, YouTube and such; but I would still hesitate because it’s the music I want, and the screaming spoils it. That being said, someone commented elsewhere awhile back that he had seen GPTN during hot weather in an outdoor venue, and that Grace poured a bottle of water over her head before going on with the next song. What an image that was – the girl just exudes joy. I also loved the footage of the group outside Sun Studios the night they went there to record – Grace said, “I’m not psyched, I’m out of my head.” – I could almost feel the night, the youth, and the promise.
