grace potter and the nocturnals idaho statesman concert review

Complete review here

In her second Big Easy visit in less than three months, Potter showed why she’s winning over Boiseans of all ages and genders. With a soulful voice and a gift for funky keyboards and flying-V guitar rock-outs, the sexy musician was alluring and empowering. Shaking her hair carelessly in her smiling face, Potter had traces of Chrissy Hynde and Nancy Wilson coursing through her veins, even if her music leans more toward rootsy soul and jam-band rock.

Potter, 24, loves to be on stage, probably because she’s a born crowd pleaser. (The Allstars should have brought her out to join them.) Not only did Potter gracefully sing Josh Ritter’s “Idaho,” she did return for an encore. (Unfortunately, it was a so-so cover of Neil Young’s “Down By the River” that cried out for vocal harmonies.)

“This is highly unprecedented,” Potter told the crowd. “You guys RULE!”

For most of her joyous performance, the same could be said for Potter.

Boise, Idaho is the “Big Easy”? Color me confused.

That was confusing, but then I figured out that I think the bar they played is called the Big Easy.
