A great interview from Jonathon Leeder over at StarPolish.
Scott on the pressure to succeed.
I’m sure Grace would never admit it, but it’s scary. There is some pressure to really reach that next level of success. She definitely has a weight on her shoulders, all of us do, but especially her. We have a tight family surrounding the band, our manager, tour manager, our front of the house, sound guys, tech guys–they have been hitting the road hard with us for the past four years now. A lot of these guys have families, and they are taking a financial hit to be part of this. So yeah, it’s not just us, as a band trying to make it there. It’s all of us.
Grace on Potterville
Potterville is a very communal place, and the people that have worked for us from the start, they live there for free, so that is how it rolls. That is the payment and right now that is the only way that we can afford to pay people. The group of people that work for us, about four or five people, have all been friends, and they just came and said, “What can I do, and how can I help?” I’m not sure when or how the whole ‘hippie commune’ thing came about, because I never really intended to imply that it was a hippie commune. But it definitely has the whole Vermont woodsy feel element. It looks like something out of Lord of the Rings , Norwegian architecture, a house build into a hill with grass growing on the roof. It’s a real cozy, cool scene. But it was built based on function. My parents kept starting new companies and they needed a building for them. It was originally just a holding center for creativity, but it has stretched out from there.
Lot’s of honesty here and, as per usual, no holding back on the opinions.
